Rick Sutcliffe was recently criticized for remarks about everyone’s favorite ESPN reporter Erin Andrews:

I was watching ESPN’s broadcast of the Braves game tonight, and there was a really, really weird moment where they were discussing Rick Sutcliffe taking time off to go get cancer treatment, and Erin Andrews was in the stands and wished him well or something — I wasn’t really paying attention, it seemed totally pointless — at which point Sutcliffe went off on a bizarre rant about her, how good she looked, her skirt, and how everyone was watching her and her skirt and when they cut to the broadcast booth, his partner had this weird look of terror and shock on his face, and they chatted about how distracting she was around the batting cage.

This should be Rick Sutcliffe’s last job announcing anything. He shouldn’t be hired to do dog races. He shouldn’t be able to ever get a quarter for hawking wares at garage sales.

I normally take the safe route and just assume Rick Sutcliffe is drunk when making moronic comments.

But even more offensive than Sutcliffe’s remarks was this comment by Richard Deitsh of Sports Illustrated:

I wish Sutcliffe, who I think is a good analyst, nothing but the best of health. I wish him a long and fruitful life.

So Richard Deitsch knows even less about baseball than Rick Sutcliffe. Noted for future reference.

Chipper Jones is the National League’s version of Derek Jeter, and it’s about so much more than having spent an entire career with the same organization.

More? That would be nice.

Jones has always put the team’s interests ahead of his own personal stats — whether it’s moving to the outfield for two seasons or giving himself up to score a runner from third.

When A-Rod, clearly a better fielder at the time, was traded to the Yankees Jeter stayed at shortstop, forcing A-Rod to play 3rd. Sutcliffe comically uses an example that not only doesn’t prove his claim but buries it.

The one statistic that jumps out to me is his game-winning RBIs. Since 1995, Jones has 183 game-winning RBIs — that’s more than Manny Ramirez, Barry Bonds and Gary Sheffield.

Sutcliffe uses a statistic that was shown useless and dropped by MLB and statisticians years ago.

Rick Sutcliffe: Still clueless.
