Buchholz Impressive On Patriots’ Day

No, they’re not the Yankees. Still, Buchholz’s six innings of shut-out ball in the final game of Boston’s four game sweep of the Rangers was encouraging; giving up five hits and striking out six while only walking two.
Not a bad line for your fifth starter. Now if he can just get his pitch count down…

Manny Love

After Dustin Pedroia, hitting in the spot normally occupied by the ejected Manny Ramirez, came through with a game tying double in Sunday’s comeback victory over Texas, his reward was the open arms of the man himself.
Pedroia:

Manny gave me a big hug when I got in here, but he hugs me everyday so I [...]

Who Needs Manny When We Have Pedroia

Boston’s 6-5 comeback victory over Texas was their most impressive victory of the year. Playing without Varitek, Pedroia, Lowell (injured) and Ramirez (thrown out arguing a first inning strike) the Red Sox entered the 7th down 5-0 before scoring two runs in their half of the inning.
After the Rangers got the first two outs in [...]

Kyle ‘the Mop’ Farnsworth Goes Headhunting

The Red Sox recently won the second of their two game series against the Yankees in the Bronx. Josh Beckett, demonstrating the difference between a good pitcher and a true ace, pitched 8 strong innings including setting down Jeter, Abreu and Rodriguez in order in the 8th.
The biggest story of the game was Kyle ‘the [...]

Less Walks Equals Better Result for Lester

I’ve always liked Jon Lester’s stuff and felt he had the potential to be, if not an ace, a number 2 or 3 on the Red Sox staff. If only he’d throw strikes, attack hitters, stop hurting himself. Doesn’t seem like a tall order. A post over at Joy of Sox, however, is a tad [...]

Ugly

The Red Sox lost to the Yankees 15-9 in an ugly game that lasted over 4 hours. When you’re starting pitcher can’t make it out of the 3rd inning you’re doing well just to stay in the game.
Buchholz got hit hard in the 1st and when he wasn’t (the 3rd) weak popups were falling in. [...]

I’m a Blogger!

Dave Winer is having a conniption after Comcast terminated his account. I know, that’s pretty much par for the course for Winer, but one Winer comment* is worth the read:

I told him this wasn’t much of a threat if they weren’t willing to put it in writing, and I wasn’t intimidated. I also told him [...]

Thank You Joe Borowski

At this time time last year, after watching Joe Borowski allow the Yankees to come back from a four run deficit in the ninth inning, I penned An Open Letter to the Cleveland Indians. Here’s some of what I wrote:

Because honestly, and I don’t believe I’m overstating the case, it’s hard to believe Borowski’s on [...]

Twitter Bares the Soul

One of the cool things about twitter is its honesty. While a blog post is often meticulously shaped to present a desired image a comment sent to twitter is more likely to be an unedited view of the writer’s opinions.
In a recent post on scripting.com Dave Winer wrote:

To equate geography with intellect is as wrong [...]
