Johnny Damon Can’t Shut Up

Since the day Johnny Damon chose to leave the Boston Red Sox and sign as a free agent with the New York Yankees he hasn’t been able to shut up about his former team.

You wouldn’t think a player that orchestrated his own departure would have such bitter feelings about his old home. Still, four years later Damon keeps running his mouth:

“I still think I’m a pretty tough person to replace…”

I realize that Damon is bitter that Boston fans didn’t riot when he left and that ownership didn’t panic and simply went another direction. I’m sure he signed with New York confident the Yankees would win anther World Series before the Red Sox. But it’s time he left this nonsense that he was difficult to replace behind.

Damon had one decent season as New York’s center fielder. Last year he moved to left and had a miserable season. He’s not even thought of as a center fielder any longer. He’s currently a 13 million dollar left fielder with very little power and a noodle for an arm.

Damon’s rapid decline has proven the Red Sox right for letting him go (though again, it was Damon’s choice), and the Yankees fools for signing him.

I’m sure that’s a tough pill for Johnny Damon to swallow.
